This website has been established to present an overall perspective of the activities of the Standardization and Metrology Authority in the UAE. I believe that this site contributes to spreading the culture of quality among the different sections of society. In recent years, the U.A.E economy has been able to establish itself as a worthy competitor to regional as well as global economies. It has done this by displaying an advanced degree of planning, organization and implementation. It has therefore established itself as an economic model to be followed. On account of the contribution made by Standardization & Metrology practices to promoting industry, maintaining consumer health, protecting environment and public safety, the federal government has taken great interest in promoting these practices. The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology was established with the aim of securing safety and hygiene for consumers as well as economic and environmental protection in the State. 

The importance of Standardization and Metrology has been felt in a number of fields where it has become one of the main factors behind the establishment of national industries capable of competing in the worldwide market. Working as per international benchmarks facilitates the flow of goods across borders and extends the scope of commercial exchange between countries. Moreover, attracting foreign investment requires the existence of Standardization & Metrology practices because investors place great importance on these practices before making their investment decisions.

In addition to the economic aspects to Standardization & Metrology, the health and safety of Emirati citizens and the residents in the UAE, are considered among the priorities of the government. The existence of the Authority makes the consumer confident that the products displayed in the local market are in conformity with international standards of hygiene.
